Katy Perry..........................Katy Perry original name Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson, (born October 25 1984 Santa Barbara California U.S.) American pop singer who gained fame for a string of anthemic and often sexually suggestive hit songs as well as for a playfully cartoonish sense of style. Perry's first attempts at success in mainstream music failed, two different record labels signing her but then removing her prior to the release of any music. Capitol Records however released Perry's EP Ur So Gay in 2007. The track that was the title track was a cheerfully flippant song that attracted minimal interest. I Kissed a Girl - an ode of curiosity about sexuality - made available a few months after. It featured a hard electro-pop sound, and had a strong attitude. A few critics accused it as a sly reference to homosexuality, while others claimed the song's sexually explicit lyrics were designed to attract men with fantasies. However, the mix of titillation and polished melodicism contributed to the fact that I Kissed a Girl become the number one song in multiple countries powering the album sales of the Boys (2008). Hot N Cold's sharp, bouncey second track was popular. The album that Perry composed in large part was sold to over 3 million people.
